Christopher J. Moore embarked on his Radiation Oncology career in July of 1982 as a Radiation Therapist at what was eventually Virtua Memorial Hospital (VMH) in Mt Holly, NJ.He spent the next 33 years of his career at VMH and was fortunate enough to establish relationships there of co-workers and colleagues who became life-long friends. Professionally, Chris did not remain a therapist for very long.
Chris began at VMH just 2 months after the installation of their first fluoroscopic simulator. He was hired to operate that simulator and split time on the treatment machine, a Varian 4/80. With the introduction of the simulator also came the necessity of more intricate treatment approaches advancing into the field of Medical Dosimetry. Chris began his membership in the ½¿É«µ¼º½in 1983. After working under the title of “Medical Dosimetrist” for 6 years, Chris sat for the MDCB exam in 1989 in conjunction with the AAMD 14th Annual Meeting in Baltimore, MD. He passed the exam becoming just the 2nd CMD in the entire state of New Jersey. Chris earned an AAS with admittance to an Honor Society and completed his BS in Applied Science in 2002, earning Summa Cum Laude status at Widener University in Chester, PA.
Chris began his service with the ½¿É«µ¼º½in 2005 as the Awards Committee Chair and served in that role for 9 years. Additionally, in 2008 he was elected to the Region IV Representative role. In 2010, he was elected Incoming President and served the 3-year Presidential cycle from 2010 to 2012.Chris was on the committee that wrote the ASTRO 2012 Safety Is No Accident paper with colleagues from across the Radiation Oncology disciplines. That same year, he served on the ½¿É«µ¼º½committee that revised both the Medical Dosimetry Scope of Practice and Practice Standards documents. Chris volunteered to become the organization's 1st Chair of the Historian Committee in 2009.It was in this capacity that he researched and wrote almost the entire edition of the Spring 2015 Medical Dosimetry journal and lectured to the membership regarding the 40-year history of the AAMD.
After 33 years of service, Chris moved from VMH to assume the position of Chief of Medical Dosimetry at the M.D. Anderson at Cooper Cancer Center in Camden, NJ in 2015. In 2018, he delivered the keynote address at the ½¿É«µ¼º½Annual Meeting in Austin, TX. That same year he was given the JRCERT Outstanding Clinical Instructor Award for his work with students in the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital Medical Dosimetry Program. Chris is the only dosimetrist to be awarded the Empower Award from Beekley Medical for his career work in 2020. In 2023 at the ½¿É«µ¼º½Annual Meeting in New Orleans, Chris was the recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award, the highest award an individual can receive from the AAMD. His long career has truly been a labor of love. Chris has seen many, many changes in our field over his career, but his focus and commitment remain the same. His own battle with the disease only served to cement his devotion to his patients.
Congratulations, Chris, on achieving the ½¿É«µ¼º½Fellow designation!
