Volunteer with AAMD

The ½¿É«µ¼º½relies on the dedication and talent of our members who volunteer to serve on committees. If you are an ½¿É«µ¼º½member who is interested in volunteering, please complete the online Volunteer Application below. Once your application is received, a member of the Nominations & Volunteer Committee will call you to discuss placement on a committee. Please be sure to include your correct phone number on your application.

What to Expect as a Committee Member:

  • Most committees have a regularly scheduled monthly conference call (usually 1 hour). They follow an agenda, and minutes are taken. Additionally, they discuss projects and divide up tasks as needed. Some committees have sub-committees.

  • Volunteer hours/month: 1-2 hours, possibly more based on projects.

  • All ½¿É«µ¼º½members are allowed to participate on committees.

  • Non-members are unable to participate on committees at this time.

  • Time of Service runs from August 1st to July 31st of the following year. However, volunteers can join at any point if there is an opening on the committee.

  • All volunteers must sign a Confidentiality Agreement and a Conflict of Interest Form.

Student Volunteers:

  • Students will be required to actively participate in committee discussions and volunteer for designated tasks.
  • Full CMD members on the committee will act as mentors to aid students in committee responsibilities.
  • A maximum of 2 students will be placed per committee.
  • Student volunteers must commit to 1 year of volunteering for the AAMD post-graduation.
  • If there are no vacancies for a student member on a committee, students will be given the opportunity to participate in the following ways:
    • Promote upcoming events and webinars via social media
    • Volunteer in-person at ½¿É«µ¼º½Regional and/or Annual Meetings

Annual Conference Committee

The Annual Conference Committee (ACC) plans the Annual Meeting each year. The committee is charged with initiating the Call for Abstracts, recruiting presenters based on feedback from previous meetings, reviewing all submissions, and selecting the best presentations to include in the Annual Meeting. They work closely with the Board of Directors, staff, and meeting planner to handle many “behind-the-scenes” details for the meeting. Overall, the ACC is tasked with offering the best educational content possible and increasing meeting attendance year-over-year. The ACC meets on the third Wednesday of the month at 1:00 pm ET.
(Applications are closed until June 2025 for the ½¿É«µ¼º½51st Annual Meeting.)

Career Services Committee

The Career Services Committee (CSC) provides timely information to the membership regarding medical dosimetry employment opportunities, as well as other career-related resources for medical dosimetrists. Recently they added resources that bring insights into making the transition to proton dosimetry and to becoming an educator. They follow hiring and workforce trends and continue to identify how to best serve ½¿É«µ¼º½members in their career path. The CSC meets on the third Tuesday of the month at 12:00 pm ET.

Continuing Education Committee

The Continuing Education Committee (CEC) promotes and supports the continuing education of the medical dosimetry community. Responsibilities include developing, selecting, and organizing online CE webinars for the CE Center. Specifically, they are tasked with recruiting webinar presenters. They strive to offer a wide variety of relevant and interesting topics. The CEC collaborates with the ACC to review educational sessions and workshops offered at the Annual Meeting. The CEC also reviews and approves credits for the ARRT, for our dually certified members. The CEC meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 3:00 pm ET. (Looking for volunteers who are both a CMD and RT, preferred but not required.)

Directed Journal Reading Committee

The Directed Journal Reading (DJR) Committee is tasked with providing high-quality journal-based continuing education (CE) content for ½¿É«µ¼º½members. Members of the DJR Committee work together to identify newly published articles and create quiz questions for each quarterly publication of the Medical Dosimetry Journal. These articles, which are approved by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB) for CE Credits, are also made available in the ½¿É«µ¼º½CE Center. Expected time commitment for DJR volunteers is approximately 10 hours per quarter, mainly for reviewing and voting on the article list, reading the two selected articles, and writing high-quality quiz material that conforms to DJR question-writing guidelines. Volunteers for the DJR should be comfortable with the careful reading of published research materials and have sufficient breadth of experience to make informed decisions about which published articles offer the most educational value to our community of medical dosimetry professionals. The DJR meets quarterly based on the publication schedule.

Journal Editorial Board

The Journal Editorial Board is directly involved in reviewing assigned manuscripts from the Editor-in-Chief of the Medical Dosimetry journal. Journal Editorial Board members will assess manuscript relevance and make publication recommendations based on independent reviews. Participation is ongoing and members can expect to spend about 1 hour each week fulfilling duties.

Formal Education Committee

The Formal Education Committee is a multi-tasking group that crafts formal educational medical dosimetry documents and contributes to the support of medical dosimetry education and educators.  The committee's responsibilities for promoting and supporting formal accredited medical dosimetry education include revision and update of educational curriculum; development and maintenance of educators’ and students’ resource sections of the website; organization of an annual student gathering and educator’s workshop in collaboration with the ½¿É«µ¼º½sponsored meeting, collaboration with the MDCB to ensure that the ½¿É«µ¼º½curriculum guidelines are reflective of current MDCB Job Task Analysis Studies; responding to JRCERT in regards to educational program standards for accreditation; making certain that the JRCERT Curriculum Analysis Grid is current as the curriculum is updated; and involving medical dosimetry educators in committee activities and the ½¿É«µ¼º½in general. The FEC meets quarterly.

Member Engagement Committee - NEW!

The ½¿É«µ¼º½Member Engagement Committee (MEC) is responsible for member recruitment and retention, as well as volunteer management (i.e. placing members on committees). The committee works to welcome and acknowledge students, international members, and new dosimetrists. Additionally, the MEC promotes and highlights ½¿É«µ¼º½member benefits. The committee strives to recognize, encourage, and support all members with their ongoing participation and involvement with AAMD. If you like reaching out to members (i.e. welcoming new ones or recruiting new CMDs to join) and/or coming up with creative ways to spotlight members and/or membership benefits, this is the committee for you! The MEC meets on the fourth Thursday of the month at 12:00 pm ET.
