The ½¿É«µ¼º½ (AAMD) is extremely proud to present the 2024 Outstanding Achievement Award to Brian Napolitano. In 2000, Brian received his Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from Binghamton University in New York. Shortly after graduation, he started as a Staff Medical Dosimetrist at Our Lady of Lourdes in Binghamton. In 2004, Brian moved to begin working at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in Boston as a Staff Medical Dosimetrist. In 2006, Brian obtained his Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) credential. Later, he received his Executive Master of Healthcare Leadership from Brown University. Currently, Brian is the Director of Medical Dosimetry at MGH, where he provides oversight of a large dosimetry team and multiple centers.
Brian has been a member of the ½¿É«µ¼º½since 2006. He has made significant contributions to the medical dosimetry profession, including serving as ½¿É«µ¼º½Treasurer (2016-2020), leading through a 3-year ½¿É«µ¼º½Presidential cycle (2020-2023), and serving as Chair of these important ½¿É«µ¼º½Task Groups: MedDos Infinity (2019-2021), 2020 and 2022 ½¿É«µ¼º½Salary Survey Administration, 2020 ½¿É«µ¼º½Workforce Survey, and 2022 ½¿É«µ¼º½Scope of Practice and Practice Standards Revisions. Brian has also served on many educational committees and task groups and held a multitude of liaison positions to outside organizations in the radiation oncology field.
Other awards and recognitions that Brian has achieved include Nominee-MGH Radiation Oncology Employee of the Year (2005, 2010, 2013), Runner-Up-MGH Radiation Oncology Employee of the Year (2007, 2008), Honoree-MGH Radiation Oncology Employee of the Year (2011, 2012), Honoree-MGH Partner in Excellence Award (2007, 2017, 2019), and Honoree-MGH Cancer Center “The One Hundred” (2013).
As for speaking engagements, Brian has moderated and presented at many ½¿É«µ¼º½Annual Meetings, as well as at an AAPM regional meeting and SROA annual meeting. Additionally, Brian has aided the Radiation Oncology and Medical Dosimetry communities by collaborating to publish four book chapters and numerous journal articles, editorials, and abstracts.
Brian also focuses on the next generation of medical dosimetrists. He has served as an adjunct faculty member for the Suffolk University Medical Dosimetry program and takes time to mentor students from across the country.
Brian’s invaluable expertise and knowledge has made a significant impact on the Medical Dosimetry profession. The ½¿É«µ¼º½would like to thank him for his contributions and congratulate him on receiving the 2024 ½¿É«µ¼º½Outstanding Achievement Award!

The ½¿É«µ¼º½Outstanding Achievement Award is the highest award an individual can receive from the AAMD. The individual’s contributions may be demonstrated by any or all of the following: ½¿É«µ¼º½Board of Directors service, ½¿É«µ¼º½committee service, publications in the radiation oncology field, professional presentations, education of medical dosimetry professionals, legislative efforts, and service to the radiation oncology community. The Outstanding Achievement Award replaces the ½¿É«µ¼º½Award of Excellence, which was established in 2007. Prior to that, the award was named the Varian Award of Excellence.
